Prized possession

Mark 8:36

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

I recently had a dream where I saw an old car sitting in a field. Now this wasn’t just a rusty old, broken down car. This was a very custom 1933 ford 3 window coupe. This car had been completely rebuilt from the ground up. Really nice paint, lots of chrome parts, really cool leather interior. The owner of this car had spared no expense in building it. This old ford had the best of everything in it, except for an engine. Well at one time it had one, a very powerful one at that, but the owner lost it. You see he had acquired a very high performance engine from a company, the cost was more than the owner had, so he financed it. When he couldn’t make the payments on the engine, they came and took it out of the car. So now, here in my dream was this old car with no motor, but even worse now it had been taken apart and its parts and pieces were scattered all over the field. Nice and shiny, all going to waste now. A very sad picture.

But this dream reminded me of Mark 8:36. All too often we do this type of thing. We see something we want, whether it be a car, boat, motorcycle, gun, tv, phone, house or job, or whatever it might be for you...but we do everything in our power to gain it. Stepping on whoever is in the way, hurting those around us to obtain it, whatever. We put so much importance on this that we forget about God. We forget about the one from whom all blessings flow. We’ve all been guilty of this if we are honest.

We have to stay focused, we have to keep our faith anchored in the finished work that Jesus did on the Cross. When we make Jesus the most important thing in our lives, well maybe not thing, but person, wait, when we just put Jesus first, the blessing will come. The things you thought you couldn't live without, well they may not seem as important before. God will give us new blessings, things we didn't even know we wanted. Blessings that he wants for us.
